Prospect Plaza Pursues LEED Silver Certification: Spotlight on Phase II
Working with Prospect Plaza’s designer, Dattner Architects, as well as sustainability and energy consultant Steven Winter Associates, Inc., the Prospect Plaza development team is seeking LEED certification for phase II of the project. Created and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a green-building rating program that fosters the construction of sustainable, resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy, and cost-effective buildings worldwide. The target for Prospect Plaza phase II is to achieve a Silver-level certification under the LEED for Homes/Midrise Multifamily standard. The team is simultaneously pursuing National Green Building Standard certification for multifamily buildings, as well as financial incentives offered by NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) through its Multifamily Performance Program, which helps to offset costs for buildings that meet or exceed energy performance goals. Certifications and incentives will likewise be sought for phase III of the project, now in the design stage.
